I was born in Lucca and raised in Montecatini Terme, lands of cycling and great enthusiasts. My whole family, and in particular my father and mother, were great fans of this sport and thanks to them I got close to the bicycle until I fell in love with it.
Unfortunately, however, the first few races were a disaster: too many kg too much did not help me or my body to achieve performance. Perhaps also thanks to some teasing too much, a spring broke in me that made me understand that if I really wanted to get results I had to put in place the most important thing, that is, nutrition by assisting it with workouts and sacrifices of all kinds.
In this way, however, the results were not long in coming: in 1991 I won the Italian National Championship in Bergamo and this immediately catapulted me into the National team.
In the following three years I graduated three times, World Cycling Champion 1992 in Athens (Greece) / 1993 in Perth (Australia) and 1994 in Warsaw (Poland).
In 1998 I won the last stage of the Giro d’Italia for amateurs and various prestigious international races. Unfortunately, however, in that year my father became very seriously ill: although shaken and destroyed I managed to fulfill his greatest dream, to finally see myself as a professional. As soon as I managed to sign my first contract I immediately ran to the hospital to bring it to him: he was very happy and proud but after only 1 hour he died. But I had managed to crown his and my biggest dream.
Despite the pain of losing my father and my greatest point of reference and supporter, I still managed to win one stage from the Vuelta de Cuba and take home numerous placings in other races.
For all this I must therefore thank my father and mother who have transmitted to me the values in which I believe and which I have made the pillars of my life by applying them also to my work: respect for the opponent, humility and honesty .
The search for perfection also in choosing the technical materials to use has always been one of my priorities because I have always had a very critical vision of what was proposed to me.
By competing at the highest levels of sport, in fact, it often happens to try out prototypes of materials and this has made me understand how wearing garments designed to reach the top of performance is fundamental to achieve results in sport.
That’s why those who choose my suits understand immediately how they don’t become 3 times World Champions by chance
